What happens if you leave the car lights on?

The school day was almost over when I received an alarming call from my mother. She wanted to know what was wrong since she received a message stating the battery was detached.

Since I'm at school the car should be fine, but I rushed to the car, and to my surprise it was fine, with the battery safe inside the bonnet. I sent a photo to my mother and she called me back, and she said I should check to see if it starts.

It didn't, that is when I saw the light switch was set to on.

And now I'm waiting for a towing company contacted by my insurance to charge my battery.
